1989 4Runner towable with four wheels on the ground?

Asked by Dennie Feb 18, 2011 at 04:44 PM about the 1989 Toyota 4Runner

Question type: General

I have a 1989 4Runner and would like to know if I can tow it behind my motorhome with all four wheels on the ground.  If so, are there any special conditions/requirements for the transfer case and/or transmission?  Are there any distance limitations after which I will have to start the engine and/or drive the car for a period of time to circulate the fluids?  Thanks.

It should be able to be towed for a short distance with both the transfer case and transmission in neutral and the hubs unlocked. I would recommend using a dolly and towing it with front wheels on the ground, everything in neutral, and hubs unlocked.
