how can I tell the difference between the 1983 camry liftback dx and LE (x)

I (my son) has a 1983 Toyota Camry and needs parts but we don't know if it's a DX or LE

Your VIN will tell you if you take it to a Toyota dealer to have it decoded. The DX was the lower-end model and the LE was usually a V-6 or a higher optioned 4-cylinder. LE is usually marked as such, DX was often not marked since it was the entry-level model.
