more on fuel problem on 1986

if you are parked and ideling,or just easing up to a normal stop
push the break shuts it down. it will start rite up after.

Hello, This may not be a fuel pump problem. It could also be a thermostat problem. There are several different things it could be. You may want to take it in to a mechanic for a diagnosis before beginning to fix different parts of it on your own. Best of luck! CarGrrl

Pull the vacuum assist hose off and plug it with a bolt or something solid see if the problem still exist's
