We are hearing a "clunking" or "rattling" sound when we shift gears on our 5 speed 1986 Toyota Tercel Wagon....it seems to be getting slightly louder. We just had a screw tightened for the gear shift - but the clunking is not going away. Can someone please help us understand what's going on and if we should drive it this memorial day weekend 600 miles?!

I would get it seen to right away. Generally with transmissions its not going to fix itself. Additionally you can check this troubleshooting website to get an idea of what is wrong. http://www.autozone.com/UseCase,S001/UserAction,viewSimpleDiagInfo/Parameters,info/getInTheZone.htm
