In general, what causes check gage light to go off, low fuel in fuel tank, low oil pressure, engine coolant temperature overheating, or battery/alternator putting out too low or too high of a voltage. Your vehicle's owner's manual usually describes what would cause a check gages light to go off, that would be the first place to check. Here are my possible guesses as to what could be going on: So common sense states, make sure the fuel tank has enough fuel, engine oil level is full and that the engine oil is cirulating, make sure engine coolant in radiator and/or overflow tank is full. If possible, making sure the drive belts are in good condition and proper belt tension to turn the water pump and the alternator. Other possibility could be loose wire connection at the gauges and/or bulb connection that lights check gages. For instance, loose connection at fuel level sender, engine coolant temperature and/or engine oil pressure sender. Make sure the sender units are accurate in addition make sure the gages are working accurately as well. Also make sure the voltage regulator on the alternator works. You can take your alternator to an auto parts store that can test your alternator for no charge, i.e. Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Advanced Auto. This may seem confusing, hopefully this will give you a good place to start

check to make sure the alternator isnt overcharging, which can also cause a check gage light. Alternators can have a habit of briefly going to overcharge, which would cause it to light up.

I got the same message in mij chevrolet camping car: car stopped, and started again, but I lost my steercontrol.and brakes at that moment. There was a loose contact but the genarator has had to much short circuits .The garage changed the generator, the problem was solved. But .. yesterday it lighted up again, there will be another loose contact, I know where to find it, under the cabin at the right side of the car. Petra
