check the backspacing of the rim. i tried a 17 in. trans am rim on my '79 monte carlo and it did not clear the upper control arm. 4.5 in. of backspacing is a good start point. i got 17 in. rims on the rear of mine w/ 5 in. backspacing and 16 in. on ffrom w/ 4 in. of backspacing. its a safe start.
