Hello, This is a tough one! I've been unable to get you an exact number. I do known that 116,580 Monte Carlos were produced that year (and 32,262 Landaus). In addition, the T tops turned out to be a valuable option; they add 15% to the value of the car. I hope this helps! CarGrrl

I had a friend who had one of the '80 Monte's with T-Tops. Locked into position, the tops rattled incessantly and, worse, they leaked water into the cabin when it rained or when he washed the car. He was a car nut and liked nothing more than to share his car books with friends. After about a year of tolerating the T-top nonsense, he traded his Monte for an '81 VW Rabbit a short time after I had traded my ailing '75 Rabbit for an '80 Monte. 1980 was a depressed year for vehicle sales. Gas prices were up and unemployment was high. Folks were not buying new cars. It also was not a banner year for GM sales. True, the resized Impala and Caprice remained popular but the resized Monte was not embraced by enthusiasts. The Camaro was due for a reskinning in '81. Remember the overstuffed Berlinetta? And, there were some experiments: namely, the Citation, which seemed promising until it succumbed to a number of recalls that tarnished its nameplate for the duration of the run. In all, I would venture an educated guess that no more than 10,000 T-tops were produced and it is likely that the true number may be 50% lower.
