Sugestions; Try adding a bottle of ' Carburetor / Fuel Injector Cleaner ' to gas! This worked for me....... ! Or, things to check : Start with the simple ones; 1. inline fuel filter 2. alternator / battery 3. fuel pump 4. timing and distributor 5. wires and plugs 6. compression test valve cover gaskets Hope this helps ya ? Let me know,ok?

It's an old post but I'll add some input in case others search it =D I have an 86 2.8 TBI. I had that exact issue as well. Though your case may be different, I would try replacing the IAC (Idle Air Control solenoid). It's located driver side of the throttle body with a square four wire plug. You will see it as it needs a large wrench to unscrew it from the TBI. Replace it with an OEM part from the store (DO NOY BUY FROM AMAZON). The so called AC Delco parts sold on that and many sites are cheap knock offs that are faulty. As it will start but is stubborn about it, I would say this is the part you need and the can run $50 give or take. (NOTE) - I had my old faulty IAC valve fall apart INSIDE the throttle body and had to remove the TB to retrieve the pieces. It's rare but can happen. Be sure to use a NEW gasket when installing the IAC as it acts as a spacer as well. Keeping the IAC from being run in to far. Hope this helps someone =D
