What is the exhaust pipe size on my 87 Escort?

I'm trying to find a new muffler, and i found one, but I have no clue how to
figure out the size of the exhaust pipe.

Sound like you are patching with what-ever you can find because if you went to the parts store, they could tell you. Anyway, just measure the diameter of muffler inlet & outlet, (use a tape rule)
