i bought a 1976 f-150 engine is bad dont know what kind it is what can i put in a
390 block

It was used in larger ford trucks, it can be used in Mustangs and the 390 was used in Police Interceptors...

360, 390, 428 all are FE big blocks and should fit in the truck. 428 was not put in a truck from the factory, but has has same dimensions as the 390. Do some reading at....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_F-Series_sixth_generation
