my 1978 ford f150 will crank over good but will not fire a shot. Help

Asked by Bailey Dec 16, 2017 at 05:43 PM about the 1978 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The spark is strong from the coil and out of the plug wires. I also put some
fresh gas into the carb . I checked compression  and they all read around 60
pounds which is a little low but it has not been run for  6 years. If you have any
idea please help.

try a good penetrating fluid down the plug holes and let it sit (maybe a week spraying every day),compression is way low seems like rings sucked themselves to the pistons make sue you change the oil and filter before starting.

At 60 # of compression in all cylinders penetrating oil not going to help you didn't say what the mileage was If the cylinders were rusty , you can have filling the ring gap with debri You may as well figure on at least having the motor re-ringed but that can turn into a complete engine overhaul stuck rings can also cause broken ring lands

Hi: Wondering how you made out because I have the same problem with my 1978 F150 Ranger , 302. Is it a regular 302 or a H.O. 302 in these trucks? I know that the firing orders are different.

So weird. I just looked this website up when I heard my husband's truck start. he's ben trying for four days. He said he just kept messing with the timing again and again. Good luck guys.
