gas guage on my 85 pick up doesn't work

I bought this 1985 ford f150 with a 300 6cyl
the guy i bought it from said someone else changed tanks
and didn't wire the gas guage properly
so i have been driving it watching the mileage and guessing
how much is in the tank
i don't want to pull the tank
any sugestions?

well man ya gonna have to haha cause ur work is better then someone ya dont know so id tank the tank down check if the fuel sending unit and pump is hooked up right and see if it needs changin check the wiring by the way ya gotta a great truck the 300 is one of Fords BEST motors but if ur still not sure check around the internet check with a ford mechanic

1985 f-150 6cyl sould be a carb engine with a mechanical fuel pump on engine block.if its not a wiring problem its probrably the float gauge in the tank.

I have ran into problems with the sending unit having holes in the float so check that out
