Temp Guage does not work

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 1995 Ford F150 Temp guage does not work. I changed the Temp Sensor
with no luck. With the key OFF the needle is on the "C", with key ON the
needle moves a little bit below the "C". With the truck running it stays below the
"C". When I turn it off it moves a little bit to the "C" again. I am thinking it is the
guage itself??

You can remove and test the coolant temperature sender unit, follow these steps: 1) Remove the sender from the vehicle. 2) Immerse the tip of the sensor in container of water. 3) Connect a digital ohmmeter to the two terminals of the sensor. 4) Using a calibrated thermometer, compare the resistance of the sensor to the temperature of the water. Refer to the engine coolant sensor temperature vs. resistance illustration. 5) Repeat the test at two other temperature points, heating or cooling the water as necessary. 6) If the sensor does not meet specification, it must be replaced. See pic below for OHM readings based on temperature of water. - Just remember there is a coolant temp sensor for fan operation and a coolant temp sender unit for the gauge.

Thanks, found out it was the wire to the sending unit was corroded, I cleaned it the best I could with the little space provided and now my Temp guage works again....
ON the car with the sensor wire disconnected, it measures 97 ohns from the sensor connector to ground. Is this good for a 91 ford 150 EFI
