85 f150 carb
has anybody out there taken off a 1 barrel carter feedback carb and replaced it with a non feedback carb and been able to get thier truck to run right? i took off a 1 barrel carter feedback carb off and replaced it with a carter non feedback carb but no matter what i do it breaks down [has a skip] while under load. throttel responce is right thier but when you try to open it up it breaks down. have rebuilt it tried 2 float settings which made no diffrence. idels fine if i set the timing at 10 degrees before top dead center truck has no power at all just breaks down. advance timing runs a lot better but still breaks down at about 35 mph. last setting at float drop down level was 1/2 inch which rebuild kit recomends for a truck. other level i believe was 11/32 but adjustment makes no diffrence. did try advancing timing which you have to disconnect one wire to set then shut off truck and reconnect which i did. and also tried not reconnecting but made no diffrence. now i know the tps is disconected and the selonoid for the carb which is going to make a diffrence. is thier any way to get the skip out without having to put a feedback carb on? i have replaced the dist no vacuume advance the dist moduel, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, [platinum tip] oxegyn sensor and coil. adjusted carb by using a vacuume gauge on intake which reads 20 pounds is supposed to be between 19 and 21 so i'm ok there. have even done intake, exhaust, carb and egr gaskets. i know some guys put on 4 barrel intakes and carbs but anybody have any idea what i have to do next to straighten this problem out? or am i screwed and have to go back to a feedback carb. the choke has a heater tube also an electronic choke which i set to just touching closed when throttel is wide open. any ideas greatly appreciated seeing i have done everything i can think of but just can't seem to get the truck to run right. is a manual trans with a granney gears. thanks paul
