We have an 86 f150 and we have replaced the
solenoid( twice) alternator, battery ,starter, and
ignition switch . when we go to start the truck the
starter keeps going and we have to disconnect the
battery to get it to stop. We undid the s wire from
solenoid and tried to rehook the battery but the
starter resumed trying to start with the wire
unattached to solenoid . does anyone know what
this is?? Need help please.

Just put a new starter in it your solenoid is sticking engaging the starter non stop.

Thanks for responding - we did have a new starter put in, it did same thing ?

Also disconnected the wire on solenoid so we could reconnect battery but as soon as battery was connected the starter began trying to turn over again even without solenoid being connected?

Sounds like u have a bad starter relay by the fender wall

The solenoid is hooked up correctly? Hot wire from battery on one side and wire to the starter on the other?

The relay should have battery cable and all others on one side and ONLY starter cable on the other end, sounds like u might've mis-wired, if u replaced it already

OK.. Replaced the solenoid one more time ( got direct from Ford) was running fine but the EEC iv relay started buzzing when the truck was in neutral or park but running and beeping on and off while driving. We got a new EEC iv relay from dealership, hooked it up everything was fine except for occasional beep from the EEC iv relay, today it was beeping , stopped to run into a store, came back out and there is zero power, won't turn over ... Nothing .. Any ideas?

Check your wires/connections for corrosion. I had a problem with one of the wires going into it corroding and not being able to handle the current that the relay required.

Ty for your replies, we were thinking of ditching the computer and putting in a duraspark ii ignition, distributer, no feedback carb, module and coil... Is that doable? Or better to just repair everything till we find the problem?

The computer doesn't have anything to do with starter circuit. You'll be wasting ur money and still have the same issue

Ty. So in your opinion this is the starter circuit and not the computer or emissions crap? Thanks for your help

Take off the starter and check the teeth on the flywheel. Aftermarket starters from parts stores, most often times, need shimming; otherwise, the the starter gets stuck and won't stop turning over.

this is a common problem with the 351 windsor motors. i con only guess that the longer stroke makes the starter draw to much current for the cheep aftermarket seloniod causing the points to weld closed the first time you turn the key.... you can order a premium starter seloniod from napa for for around 30 bucks . i dont remember the brand but it is brown not black..
