Gas tank issue

Asked by FordGasTank Oct 15, 2018 at 07:04 PM about the 1987 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, so there's a couple things going on with my pickup.. it's
an old 1987 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat with dual tanks. The
front tank won't let me put any gas in, when I go to put fuel
in the front tank it keeps making the pump nozzle click off
like it's full although it's not. Also it spews gas out of the
tank even with the gas cap on tight. It constantly drips and
leaks, then when I park and shut the truck off and let it sit
for awhile it won't leak, BUT when I go to take the gas cap
off it tries spraying out like majorly. So I don't take the cap
off for the said reason. Help...!?!??.....??...

The fuel tank selector unit is bad causing fuel to go from one tank to the other tank filling it up. The tank you can't get fuel in is FULL. This is somewhat common and can be fixed by replacing the fuel tank selector unit.
