What automatic 3peed with over drive transmissions came in my 1988 f-150?

The AOD (Automatic overdrive). It's the only automatic option for that year. It is vacuum controlled as opposed to the '91+ models, which were electronically controlled. Damn fine trans. You can prolong it's life by consciously downshifting into 3rd, as Ford tuned the shift points to meet EPA/economy standards more than extracting full functionality and avoiding excessive wear and tear- so, avoid 4th gear unless you're on flat roads at highway speeds. I have a 92 AODE that has 266K on it and live in hilly southern Indiana, haul my firebird with it often (among other heavy loads), and HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER WITH IT!!!! And my truck works for a living. Ford did a damn fine job on these. First: 2.40:1 Second: 1.47:1 Third: 1.00:1 Overdrive: 0.67:1 Reverse: 2.00:

I don't recall it being an option for the f-150. It was available on some broncos in the eighties only..... or at least im pretty sure :S Though i'm almost 93.6% certain the AOD was all you got on the F-150 Automatic-wise.
the E40D worst tranny ever change it for a C6 you wont regret it i didnt i put on in place of the E4OD in my 87 F150
