truck makes screeching noise when i try to start it

First, when diagnosing possible electrical or starter issues......Have the battery tested and charged if necessary. A weak battery can make strange noises at the solenoid. Second, check all battery, starter and solenoid connections, these connections need to be free of corrosion, clean and tight. If all checks out with the battery and cables proceed with further diagnosis.
