Yes the Aod transmission will bolt up. You will have to change the front yoke on your drive shaft because c6 is a 31 spline and AOD is a 28 spline and maybe change the length of the drive be shaft. You will have to move the transmission tail brace and make sure you have the right throttle cable mount to accept the AOD kickdown cable. You will have to change the flexplate on your engine and the starter.
Yes, you can. I have done this on my 1989 Ford van. The AOD requires a shorer driveshaft, different driveshaft snout, and different flex plate. If I remember correctly, the transmission mount is in a slightly different location on the rear of the AOD than on the C6. Fortunately, at least on the van, Ford made the trans cross-member removeable and actually drilled it for both transmission mounting location. On my van I was able to just remove the crossmember and rotate it 180 degrees and reinstall it. You have to get a ring gear that is the correct weight and offset to mate the 351W to the AOD. You will also need to address the different neutral start switch and shift pattern. You should be able to order the right NSS and find a steering column from a junkyard truck that had an AOD so your gear indicator will still be correct. You will also need to adjust the shift linkage. I would not do the swap if you have a rear axle gear ratio of (numerically) lower than 3.5. But those are really the only obstacles to the swap. Good luck!
