Does the odometer allow reading more than 99,999 miles? My 88 F150 XLT Lariat 5.8 efi 4X4 Auto DOES NOT. So, first, consider that the mileage may be 198,840, or even 298,840. Look for the amount of rust at the lower corners of the cab. I paid $1,350 for mine last November, 2011, at local auction. The previous owner had tried to sell it privately at $1,750 before sending it to auction. Everything electrical worked, all instruments except for an intermittent oil pressure connection. The biggest flaw (aside from rust) was the ignition switch had broken and a separate starter button wired in to "fix" the problem.

I would bet come this spring when gas is over $4 a gallon you could get it for 500 to 700 bucks, that old of a machine can be an undertaking with things like replacing brake lines front to back. and it will a thirsty one to operate.

Is your state a title state? If so, check it. It he purchased it new it will show the mileage when purchased. If he purchased it years ago, the mileage at time of purchase should be listed. Do some math in your head since the OD only goes to 99,999. If it comes out to two thousand miles a year or so over 10 years somebody is likely telling a fib.

Try a Carfax or Autocheck title report - it will probably show a registration time in the late 1990s where the odometer reading is declared no longer accurate. That would be the point at which the truck went over 100,000 miles

I have an XLT Lariat. 1989 V8 302 2WD 163K original miles (I'm second owner) A/C works well. Hardly driven for past seven years. Real good shape. No rust. Will be willing to sell a real nice camper/topper with the truck. Pass thru windows from the cab. Will send a lot more pictures if interested. Located in SW Virginia
