Performance Upgrades

Question type: Car Customization
I have a 1986 Ford Festiva that my grandmother gave me for my 37th birthday. I deliver pizzas in it so I want more performance to get there faster. What can I do to get better performance without spending a lot of money? I was told a K&N air filter and Bosch platinum plugs would give me 40 to 60 more horsepower. Other than this, I don't know what to do except wait and see what my mom gets me for my birthday. Anyways, any ideas??

A new fiter ang plugs are NOT going to give any car ever 40-60 horse power. maybe 10 at the most. try finding a diffrent camshaft or have the carb re-jetted by a pro.
Your probably better off just spending the money on oil change, fuel filter, etc. Make sure it runs good. Even if you do all bolt ons you will barley get 40+ hp. To do that you will need to boost and you will have to custom fab turbo manifold and everything. If your really handy you can do it for like 1.5k. But I take you arnt. So CAI and just spend your money on a oil change, new filters, and transmission fluid.
put a cherry bomb on the back or a gino muffler, thats a gaurentee'd 20hp at the wheels!!1!!
marty i'd look in to putting some sort of blower-turbo set up on this awesome machine..this will guarantee tire screeching performance and will definately put a new standard to the 35 or free....hope this helps and the skies remain blue...
Good Ideal Larry. I actually have a blower off of a 350 chevy that I think I could make work. I'd have find some pipe to make a manifold though. Any thoughts on the retro-fit?? Also, what kind of glue do you think I should use to glue the brake lining back onto my brake shoes. They just fell off the other day??? Thanks
i'd probably use klebfix, but if you dont have any lying around, i plain old crazy glue would do.
First off the first year for festiva was 1988(In the US at least) so I'm kinda doubting you have an '86. And no, a filter and plugs isn't going to more than double the stock horse power! They only have like 55 HP from the factory. If you are really serious about building a fast festiva then swap the motor with a BP or B6T motor from a mazda. Very easy swap and tons of power. If you want to keep the stock B3 motor though check out festivamotorsport.com. They have performance cams and other stuff for the B3.
your kidding right?37 and still living at home?wont the car do over 50?i have a 90 festiva with over 400,000 miles on it and loves doing 65-70 on the freeway.i think you need a better job at your age anless your delivering full time.i did for years and made a good living at it.
Whew ,i thought i was being obnoxious, but Marty57,im sorry for response but really, you have to consider other options.thanx papa, you sound like a toughy but sweetheart lol
I do hope that's a joke
I have a 89 festiva an the stock 1.3L 81cui motor pushes 58hp with 73ft lbs of torque that's stock, I know for a fact stock it will turn both front tires on asphalt, yea it want turn them for as long as I would like for it to but it will leave black marks about a foot to a foot an half long, I'm tryin to make mine have a little bit more power so I think I'm going to put a turbo kit on it an see what it does hopefully that will give it enough boost if not then I will do the Mazda B6T swap an run a turbo.
