I hav a 85 ford ranger that i have taken the distributor out with out marking where the rotor was at or anything now i put the timing marks where they are supposed to be and it wont start What do i do

Need to bring #1 piston up on the compression stroke to TDC. Then you drop the distributor in place with the rotor pointing to #1 spark plug. Start it up by moving the distributor if need be to get it started, let it warm up and re-time it with a timing light.
