55 T-bird question again, to correct the stripping speedo gear ? A transmission
shop has work on classic cars , has suggested to rebuild the tranie,that will

If the gear in the tail shaft is the problem yes, Make sure they guaranty IN WRITING this will correct your speedometer gear issue, why not rebuild the 55's transmission how many miles on it? and also these are VERY basics units (Fordomatic) 2-speed you can purchase a reman too.
