dry float bowl after 24 hours

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1963 thunderbird new carburetor, all tight, good gasket, good fuel
line and filter, HOWEVER after a few hours the float bowl is starting to run
down, Ive checked with a full bowl but a cold engine so there isn't any heat to
evaporate the fuel, there are no leaks on the engine block etc, is it possible to
leak back through the inlet valve ( new carburetor) ? or anything else, after a
short run it starts ok but after a 1/2 hour run plus it turns over too many times.
Any suggestions???

Are you by chance using Ethanol gas or gas with high amounts of Ethanol. Today's fuel system are closed and pressurized and will not evaporate. Ethanol and isopropanol and boil at a lower temperature than water, which generally means that they will evaporate quicker than water. So when the car is running it is heating up most. Most cars run between 195 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit and at these temps and using Ethanol gas, it will evaporate because or the open fuels systems in cars using carbs. You can try this after you had the car out for a long ride. Open the hood and put a fan on the engine to cool it down as fast as you can to room temp, then check car 24 hours later. if there is fuel in the bowl you have solved your issue. you need to purchase gas with no Ethanol in it and keep in mind that you also need lead in your gas. But of course you can't buy leaded gas you will need lead substitute gas additive it can be purcahsed here in the states.
Thanks cometguy61 and F_O_R Ill look at both sugestions folling F_O_R answer would the needle allow fuel to flow back from the float bowl? bearing in mind the engine would be hot after a run. I ran yesterday 1/2 hour, stopped the motor for 10 minutes then it had to turn over for perhaps 20 seconds before it fired up any suggestions Neil
I have a feeling the gas is boiling and this will not allow you to start the car when it is hot. You can use a spacer plate just under the carb this will dissipate the heat. Please try putting the fan blowing on the carb after driving it for that 1/2 Hour, cool it down and try starting it again...I think it's going to work !
Look into an insulating carb gasket. Jegs sells them.
