What does "2 valves in your head have gone" mean?

I've got an 85 Honda Civic that lost power and stopped. The engine would kick over but not start. The mechanic said it wouldn't keep pressure as 2 valves have gone. Is it a head gasket problem in the making? Worth fixing?

The timing belt must have gone bad, causing the pistons to hit the valves, bending them so they can not seat, and hold cylinder compression. Damaged valves which means the head would need to be checked for cracks and reconditioned. This is an interference engine meaning the valves will hit the pistons if the engine timing between the crankshaft and camshaft are off, which the timing belt keeps the two in time.
