What could have caused such a drastic drop in mpg so suddenly?

My 2003 Honda civic has always averaged 30mpg until I had a cam sensor replaced. Since the I get 19-20mpg. Mechanics checked every out and found no reason for the drop in gas mileage. It could be coincidental and separate issues but what the hell. Do I have to live with this huge drop?

who can live with it? gas is expensive- that does not seem to be a coincidence- you replace the sensor and you start gettin' the bad mileage- now- WHY did you have the cam sensor replaced? sounds like you are goin' backwards-
My car would stall out and it was determined that my cam sensor was the issue. My car no longer stalls outs and runs well but the mileage is abysmal. My mechanic insisted everything checks out and the cam sensor would have nothing to do with mileage anyway. They spent an hour going through everything and found everything up spec. They did not check the torgue?? something or other because they couldn't find a 'portal?' to it.

To replace this part the only point of contact to cause friction would be the timing belt plastic cover, find out if they pulled it back off and checked for improper scratch/rub marks. I would take it to another shop if you cant check it yourself - you will find a video on the University of YouTube
I will check that out Rex and let you know what happens. Thanks so much!
