Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,
The monitor of the navigation system of my BMW X5 2003 has a weired problem.

The monitor works perfectly sometimes, but other times it gets bright white so that I cannot see anything.

It is completely random, sometimes working sometimes not (it gets white)!!???

(it is not battery problem for sure, since I have installed a new battery last month and nothing has changed)

Do you know what the problem is?

If your BMW is still in warranty, you can get it fixed for free.........I have heard a lot of issues with NAV/SCREENS.......Give Zach a call,He is in charge of BMW service at Autobahn BMW ......have your complete VIN # ready to read back to him on the phone....there may be an open recall on your car.ZACH"S phone number @ AUTOBAHN is 1-817-336-0885

I believe the problem is a small flat connection in the back of NAV. When u press the bottom for the loading a tape (old tape), the front panel of Nav is coming out, if you put ur hand behind the pop-ed out monitor, u will find a flat connection. If the connection is mechanically lose or has defects, it make the above problem. When I touch the connection, the problem will be solved for few days. However, I believe, I have to replace the connection for a permanent fix.
