Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I want to know how efi cars fuel pump work,
i want to also ask when we start a car fuel
pump always run or during runing engine
fuel pump current gets on and off or fuel
pump remain still off, I want to install
electric fuel pump in old model cresida which
have a carburator.
it is possible or not, if not then help me to
know how fuel pump works.

Most Gas fuel injected vehicles are supplied with fuel with a COMPUTER controlled electric fuel pump. The regulated fuel pressure could be anywhere between approx. 30-50 psi. Most CARBURETOR gas engines are operated with a MECHANICAL Fuel Pump at a pressure of 4-6 psi. So...running a Carb. Engine with a fuel injection pump would require a fuel pressure REGULATOR which would drop the high pressure(50psi)....down to a safe 4-6 psi. Could be dangerous and not safe. Suggest you consider an Electric Pump made for carb. engines.
