Would u recommend repaint or replace?

Question type: General

I recently scratched my rear bumper. Which of the
following options would u recommend? 1a- repaint
by professional body shop, cost $800 (I'm on a tight
budget) 1b- repaint by maaco, cost $350. They got
decent reviews on yelp. 2. Replace it- cost $900 (I
won't do this unless I have absolutely no other
choices) My car was repainted by the dealer and
the paint is peeling off. Apparently they did a bad
job. Would a good autobody shop (option 1a) do a
better job than the dealer did, and prevent the paint
from peeling if I scratch it again? Do you know if I
have any other options? Thanks a lot.

Hard to say if the dealer did a bad job or not. Something like this I think I would go with the cheaper price. If you went with the $800 paint job, you might as well get a new bumper for $900. The cheaper price makes more sense.

It might actually just be the clear coat that's peeling, and it would be cheapest to sand it and just reshoot the clear. Don't waste money on a new bumper cover, that won't solve anything and it would still need to be repainted, even if you found one in your car's color, chances are it would be a shade off. The Maaco job is cheapest but that is probably because it would be single-stage paint, with no clear coat, it will not match your car's finish perfectly, unless you bump up to their premium service - and 350 to 800 sounds ridiculously high, unless there is body work involved you didn't mention.
