I am constantly leaving the plug disconnected after servicing the air cleaner and this sets off the engine light. I refuse to go to a dealer to get it turned off. It's time someone answered the question without giving you a song and dance, so here goes: Tired of all the advice and want to reset your check engine light? Plug in the scanner with the engine on and let it run. When it gives you a code hit "enter" it will ask you "Erase - yes - no" select "yes" and watch the light go out. If it comes back on, THEN get service.
