oil not changed.

Black oil may just mean the oil needs changing. If they let it go too long between changes the engine could have a lot of sludge. A mechanic could remove a valve cover to check. You can remove the oil filler cap and look to see if you can see a lot of sludge.
Thanks, and what does sludge build up mean? is this serious. Its just curious to me that a car with 40,000 miles in excellent condition would have neglected an oil change. I bought a car like this years ago, and when I changed the oil it smoked from that point on. could a car sitting too long have this black oil?
THANKS. THIS CAR IS AT A CAR LOT THAT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHEN i TOLD HIM i HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE OIL IN THE VEHICLE, i WAS TOLD I MIGHT OUGHT TO LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. NO OFFER TO DO SOMETHING AS EASY AS CHANGING THE OIL, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE A MECHANIC ON DUTY. THINK I WILL PASS.
