Chrysler Town and Country sliding door will not unlock?

Asked by 1winemaker Sep 27, 2011 at 07:46 PM about the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The sliding door on the drivers side will not open with fob, dash switch or manually pulling up on knob. The knob will not budge. Any ideas on how to open it?

I have the same problem except mine will not open manually, Its as though the inside lock button is hung in the locked position.

We had to replace the actuator inside the door. It's an electronic component I think and was around $165. We hired a guy who fixed the door, but left the huge chunk of hard foam that is behind the door panel out and just replaced the cover panel inside. Lovely.

is is what I found out. I took it to the dealer and they gave me a quote of $1300. I took it to a body shop and paid $320!! Here is what the problem is- it’s an actuator. That part is maybe $100-200 and it is not that complicated to repair. IF your door was open you could probably replace it yourself. But since the door is shut and stuck that way you have to get the door panel off from the inside with the door shut. A body shop is the best person to do this. Don’t trust the dealer with this because it’s body work! The dealer will break the door panel and that is why you are paying so much for. In my case, once the body shop got the door panel off they were able to get a good grab hold of the bar that goes in to the actuator and they were able to jam that bar toward the actuator which unlocked the door. Once the door was unlocked, it opened easily because there was nothing wrong with the door opening mechanism- it was just stuck locked. Once the door was open it’s an easy fix.

I got mine opened but had to use pliers on the locking nob to pull up while my kiddo pulled the handle from outside.

lock actuator has a small rod that fits in the top of the lever, this is what has to move to open the door. It is easy to miss, and it makes the difference between working and not. It shows it in some of the youtube videos, but not in all of them as it is back where you cant see it, you have to look and feel for it

I put a brand new actuator and the door will still not open. There is nothing i can do to get it open. The door unlocks well but it still won't open. Your suggestion will be useful, anyway to get it open?

Its the actuator wire connector or the actuator itself. Check for cut wires is common issue for this model. Doing this and the window tomorrow on mine
