Heater Fan on my 98 Town & Country doesn't always work

Asked by bluejay6545 Oct 16, 2010 at 07:21 PM about the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Here we go...When it's cool and damp outside, the heater fan on my Town & Country either will not work, or, it will kick on after a few minutes.  All summer....it worked fine for the a/c...but it gets cool outside, and it works sporadically....if I'm lucky.  The fan in the back works fine...but that doesn't help much in keeping warm in the winter.  Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

Yup, take the cover off the bottom of the heater box, pretty simple, just take out the screws of the black box on passenger side underneath the dash. you will see it, it's round. There's not but 3 or 4 screws in it. After you remove the cover you will see the back of the fan (The round motor end) Take out the fan, amke sure the unplug the one connector wire after the fan is out. When you have it out take a hammer and tap on it. You will see all kinds of black dust coming from it. Try to tap all of the dust out. After the dust is almost gone or completely gone that you can see, replace the wire, turn the switch on and make sure the fan isn't going to hit anything and turn it on the lowest setting, should work great now. Turn off the switch and put it back together. Should work at least a few more years now
