why is tranny shifting hard?

have 05 dodge ram 1500 with 4.7 magnum. tranny downshifts hard when letting off gas and slips when taking off. less than 2000 miles on rebuilt tranny. it acted same way before going completely out, what could be causing this? idles rough also, up and down,

Read your codes and have the transmission rechecked under the warranty. You say the engine idles rough "up and down", Is that with the transmission in Neutral or in Park ? The transmission should have nothing to do with the "engine idle condition" if the transmission is in PARK. Look things over for loose vacuum or electrical connections as well.
Try changing your Map Sensor. It may or may not give you a cel yet but eventually will. I had been chasing that harsh downshift for a while. I did remember that long ago I had a car that was doing a similar problem due to a faulty temp sensor. Weird how some "unrelated" systems affect other things.
