I don't think you'll have any problem with using the existing wiring harness but the PCM should be reprogrammed for the correct VIN if you swap it, but you might be able to retain your old one. Everything should bolt right into place. Dodgetalk.com and Ramforum.com have dedicated threads to engine swaps for Dodge trucks. I don't see anything that would keep you from bolting the new engine right into place.

The 07 will have MDS as Dodge rams were introduced to the Multi displacement system in 2006 up i believe. The intake is different as you have 4 mds selonoids that needs to be blocked. the Valve cover will need to be changed and also the timing cover, not sure about the oil pan. The 2007 will bolt into place as my mechanic did it without any mods. i’m just waiting on the a starter and a valve cover and the engine blocker plastic tabs thing, i forgot the part number. We will then start it up using the ignition system from the 2005 as the computer will not read the 2007 ignition system that’s why we swapped the intake and the valve covers. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out and if it goes well. The 2007 engine was low mileage and cheaper than the 2004-2005 engine so that’s why i went with that.

Chris, I have a couple questions for you. Sounds like we're doing the same swap but wanna make sure. First off any luck? I'm swapping from a vin 2 to vin D motor in my 07. I've swapped the PCM and still can't get the truck to run right. Do I need to swap the wiring harness also for the motor. If anyone else has any input would appreciate the help

I am building a 05 5.7 for my truck which is an 05 1500 with 4.7 in it now , i have the 5.7 wiring harness and i am mocking up the electrical system now on the engine stand , i have found differences in the wiring such as the new throttle body ( 92 mm ) is a three pin connector where as the old stock throttle body is a 6 pin connector and the coil packs (which were supposed to be 2005 and up MSD BLASTERS ) have a 3 pin connectors and the old coils are a two pin connectors ( which I have learnded the MSD coils are actually 2006 and up , all these i was told would work so just be aware and check your all your connectors for fitment before diving in !
