Had noise coming from front of motor, suspected timing chain issue.after changing guides and chains, now runs rough and fast idle( 2000 rpm or so) thought we followed all protocol.

You mention chains and guides, but did you change the sprockets as well? You'll have to run some diagnosis to see what is causing the rough/fast idle.
I would check for vacuum leaks before anything else.

I did not replace sprockets. It was running normal before the tear down. I visually looked for vacuum lines possibly not connected, but not conclusive. I spoke to a mechanic friend today and he suggested a possible bent valve??? said to check if all cylinders are firing, if not check their compression.
If the chain had broken or you installed the new one off a few teeth it might be possible that you bent a valve. A compression test will help rule that out.
