it only happens to the front speakers, sometimes its the right one and sometimes its the left sometimes both at one time.the back speakers seem to be fine.

...well thanks god that you still have music, and the amplifier is still intact--...pain, but you could switch the wiring front to back to see if there's an open on the front speakers...or test them with a multi- meter...should be 4ohms each for a car stereo~

myeah, could be...ground is not good for each of the impaired ones, this would explain the intermittent nature of the problem...hopefully yours is not like the toyota's which relies on the mounting screws to establish ground~

Check your wires in your door. The ram is notorious for these wires breaking. Remove the accordion boot that runs from the pillar to the door. Check and see if the wires are ok.

Pull the speaker and check the magnet. My 2005 Dakota had magnets break off! Speaker frame is plastic and weight of magnet combined with junk plastic speaker frame will not hold up to repeated door slamming. Magnet may be loose from cracked mounting causing cutting out eventually breaking completely off.

Years later. But i also found this identical issue with my 04 dodge ram 1500. Both front door speakers quit at the same time. Ended up pulling the speaker and noticed the connection on the speaker it self was rusted and came apart. This is a California truck as well so i was surprised. But re-soldered the connection and plugged back in. Works great now. Hope it helps someone.
