Truck seems to be idling faster than its actually moving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck seems to be idling faster than it's
actually moving. It seems like it's
struggling to go I do feel the transmission
changing slightly but it's almost like the
transmission is not working until I feel it
change. To explain better it sounds like it's
going at the same speed all the time with a
high idle.

Oh and I forgot to mention every so often I have a check engine light and it says number 2 misfire. I have had the coil pack changed the plugs changed and the mechanics stated that it had an inconsistent number 2 misfire and did not understand why.

A high idle is often caused by a vacuum leak somewhere. The computer senses the extra air so it adds fuel to compensate and keep a balanced air fuel mix, and viola you have a high idle. Check areas like the PCV, booster hose, try a spritz of starting fluid in or around a suspect hose, it may result in a temporary goosing of the throttle indicating it's the source of your vacuum leak.
