This is semi- typical with dodge pickups. My rule of thumb is if you have a dodge pick up with over 120k miles on it you are going to need a tranny rebuild. most of the time they just loose reverse for no reason. So you will be in need of a rebuild. Expect to pay around 1250 for a complete rebuild. I would call the local salvage yards and see if they can help you out with a low mile tranny out of a crashed pickup. that will run you about half the rebuild cost.

Key clue is no park. Check your shifter cable. I'll bet its broken. Probably hit neutral on the way to park and broke then. Otherwise would be stuck in gear and wouldn't start due to neutral safety switch. Good Luck!

well chris your rule of thumb is idiotic, torqueflite makes fantastic transmissions, jhill, your linkage is broken somewhere, or you have a broken bushing/connection

My rule of thumb is not idiotic. i say this because i have rebuilt and replaced many dodge transmissions. Chrysler is idiotic for using the same transmission in every truck they make.. whether you got a 6 cylinder gas to a cummis you are getting the same tranny.

Chris, normally I refrain from involvement in pissing contests but your statement above is simply false. Yes, the basic design is similar but even in the 904/727 days there were and are differences in size, clutches, load capacities, converter types and even gear ratios. Here is but one bit if info and there's lots more out there. http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/dodge/1994-transmissions.html Now, how about we simply solve jhil4's problem here and move the opinions to another thread. Good Luck!
