I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 and my rear end sounds like the whining of a power steering pump. It only does it when I turn and it's kind of sporadic. Anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

Treadwear, treadblock squirm? they call it. tire pressure. try raising and lowering psi about 10 if you can fit it between 28 and max. if tires are off the list take it to get looked at professionally in the center gears of the diff. drive with the tech
We had spicers like that under 12/ 12 and there was a miniature kit, solved it. a mess to clean though. But sound can deceive, it actually could be a sound from elsewhere , or considered normal. even. see if they hear what you hear. Let them get all smelly and chemical exposed.
Check your rearend oil,if low may be internal chunk gear wine.
You could also opt for performance gear lube if you carry loads or tow things. it handles more for longer after you are sure you are closing it up and running it, or after repair. They have it at the parts store. you can have your tech measure the backlash and run a pattern on it while it's being checked but he will say all that. Backlash too wide can moan on decel, you must be at that condition when you get the sound if it was your diff, your tech determines that by feeling it with an educated foot.
