Dodge Ram Altenator?

Asked by Lacey Apr 16, 2020 at 09:44 PM about the 2001 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: General

Might be a silly question but can you take an
alternator out of a 5.2 and put it in a 5.9? Will it
match up and have the same amperage rating in
both trucks? Both are 2001

Found some research on Dodge forum that the 5.2 has 117 amps and the 5.9 has 136 stock. Someone said there is a 175amp but Idk.

The amp difference is of little consequence. What matters is will it bolt in and does the wiring match up.

Gonna look at em in the mornin and see if they bolt up the same before I go get my 5.9 alternator checked. Just not wanting to spend money on a new one if i need it if i already have one on my 5.2 that I can use.
