Need more information about the vehicle.... seems like bad coincidence.
Warning, running out of gas in a fuel injected vehicle can damage the electric fuel pump in the tank.
this happened to me once. I put fuel in and it started but misfired bad and quit. I disconnected ground from battery for 5 mins. re started and ran fine. If this does not help have crank sensor checked. If its bad do not replace with aftermarket, they don't match good with computer. Hope this helps.
