could be in your wiring or the gauge itself. the thing i would do is get an aftermarket one that doesn't rely on wires.

My 2005 Dodge Ram 4.7 is having trouble starting, it usually takes 3 attemps until it turns over. I suspected that it may be the check valve on the sending unit but I can find the part in online autopart stores which leads me to believe that it doesn't have one.
