my 94 1500 2wd with a 3 speed with over drive and bit the bullet has anyone else had this problem and if so what usually goes inside the tranny

It's a common problem. There's a snap ring in there this has a tendency to break. Also in the overdrive unit there is a huge spring that sometimes breaks. A good rebuild shop will replace those with updated parts that have been redesigned.
