Dodge ram 1500 5.2 tranny problem

I have a 98 ram 1500 5.2 litre when tranny shifts
into passing gear it actually loses speed rather
than picking up and going wondering what could
be the issue

the first thing and least expensive would be to check how old the fuel filter is ,the other thing could be a plugged exhaust.the most common problem with that symptom that came into my transmission shop was the first.it only shows up when you put a higher demand on the fuel supply.you can't duplicate it by reving the engine.
