GMC astro cargo van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Could you please tell me how long it would take (approx) to replace the fuel
pump on a 2001 GMC astro cargo van? Also the name of a good fuel pump
compatibel with the astro (V6, rear wheel drv)?
THANKS!

The fuel pump on this vehicle will require you to drop the fuel tank. If you are doing this yourself in your garage on the floor, figure roughly 4 hours. If your going to keep the vehicle, I would recommend going with an AC Delco pump. Expensive, but OEM parts will last longer. Although I put a cheepo pump in mine and it lasted 5 years.

Hi Mark, thanks for the info. What was the cheapo pump you put in yours, just to have something to compare to?

Sorry, another quick question here - there seem to be many different makes of the AC Delco pump - which would you recommend for my 2001 GMC astro cargo van (V6)?
This is a similar pump that I installed, but this one is for your vehicle. I ordered the entire sending unit. I figured while I was in there I'd replace the whole thing for the cost difference. http://www.1aauto.com/2000-05-chevy-astro-gmc-safari-electric-fuel-pump-and-sending-unit-module/i/1afpu01099?f=387600&y=2001
Check the following page for AC Delco pumps for your vehicle. They're about the center of the page: http://www.oehq.com/acdelco-search_4330_module_fuel-pump-%28sender-and--pump-module%29.htm

Thanks so much Mark. It's pretty hard to pass by the $68.95 fuel pump for the $226.95 version when you're strapped for cash, but I guess I need to bite the bullet and go for the higher quality part. Thanks again for your advice!
