Right and safest size tire for a 98 gmc van

I just got a 98 gmc safari van for my daughter the
tires look really big and are size 255/70R15, we
were given tires size 205/75R15 they said thatsthe
correct size for the van my question is whats the
correct size we need?

look in the owner's manual- sometimes there's a sticker in the glovebox or on a door pillar- it is splitting hairs between these two you mention- if those wider tires aren't rubbing, then they will give better traction on dry pavement, but the skinnier tires will work better in the snow- having smaller tires (70) might throw the speedo off a mile or two- that's the only difference- so if they are good tires, and you're not driving in snow, they should be fine- having said that, if you have the money go ahead and put some Michelins on that thing in the factory recommended size-

Also look on the driver's door post for a small square sticker. It will list the proper sized tire for that particular vehicle.
