tilt column lock

Asked by hartley70 Dec 12, 2009 at 05:50 PM about the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The lever for the tilt column will not stay up and so the steering wheel goes wobbly.  I just drove home holding it in the
up postition.  Is there a way to lock it that I don't understand?

Yes, remove the dash panel below the steering column. You will then see where the lever pin goes through the column and can be tightend by a nut on the right hand side. set the column where you want it, tighten the nut, and your done. Just don't expect to be able to move it freely afterwards. If this fails, like mine did, i just wrapped some electrical tape around the column and over the lever to keep it in place and restrict it's ability to "fall" down. HTH Dunc
