There is a small contact switch on your shifter assembly that is probably not touching. If you can get to it just put a slight bend on the metal tab so that it fully contacts. Worked for me hopefully it will work for you.

Thank you so much. 2012 Kia. Been trying everything to remove the key. Removed to positive cable from the battery, turned like starting it and turned it off and the key came right out. Some electronic ignition switch defective I guess.

The car wouldn't start key stuck in ignition. Checked and the last person to drive it hadn't put it into park. Slid it up to park and problems solvedl

Like the other person said, make sure it's in park!!!!! Our Kia soul's steering wheel wouldn't turn and the key wouldn't come out but the car and lights would turn on. After 15 min of troubleshooting we put it in park and everything worked out.

FOLLOWED Jessie who answered 4 years ago! It worked perfectly; I have a Kia Spectra 2005. Key was LOCKED. The SHifter has a tiny little button on the front middle of it. Push it, It Will Release!!! THANK YOU!!!

Wow, just had same issue with key locked in the ignition. Had to go a little further than Jesse and Juan, we had to remove the gear shift knob and realign it and re-thread the hex shaped allen screws. Thank goodness, this worked and key released. Off to the auto shop to get the screws replaced in the morning. Thank you Jesse!!
