Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2006 tribute stopped as I was driving. My mechanic said the compter is sending a command for the coils to spark but none are sparking and it is my computer. Does this sound correct?

Your ECM sends the ground signal for the injectors to pulse not the fire. The power comes from the ignition switch. He needs to install a noid light in one of the injector plug ins and see if it flashes when cranking. If it flashes then there is no problem with the ECM to injectors If it doesn't flash he needs to use a test light to see if it is not getting power or no ground when cranking. If no ground the ECM is bad. If no power start tracing from the ignition switch.
My car did the same as Kanita. They said I need to replace both cpu and colis. Is that true?
My daughters 05 Mazda Tribute just died and would not restart. After trouble shooting everything it came to be the engine control module. Bought new module (460.00) and everywhere that I read it said to replace all 6 Coils at the same time. Even the big red sticker on the new module said warranty would be void if new coils were not replaced.I did not replace coils, had new module flashed and keys made and car started right up but had a misfire. Replaced the coil (65.00) that was bad and it ran like a champ until the next day. Now I have the same issue as before. I need another engine module and I will replace all 6 coils. I found out the hard way that when a coil goes bad it shorts out the module. I know better than taking the short cut but I was hoping. Good luck......
If the test codes indicate that your computer is malfunctioning, it probably is true! The question is, do you trust your mechanic? I certainly trust mine. If he told me that , I would definitely believe him. Good luck.
